Make a draft answer a specific question
A low-cost draft is useful when it tells you what to change. Before generating, write a sentence such as “Can the audience see the note before the character reacts?” or “Does the camera finish beside the product?” A pretty draft with no decision attached can consume the same budget as an unplanned final attempt.
This workflow starts with Seedance 2.0 Mini at 480p for 5 seconds. It is the lowest quoted video option on SeaDance. A draft tests clarity, blocking and timing; it is not a preview that turns into another model’s output. Generating with a different model is a fresh charged request.
According to ByteDance’s Seedance overview, the family combines generated audio and video. Review what the draft says and sounds like as well as what it shows. An action that reads clearly without the intended line may still fail as a dialogue scene. This practical workflow is a suggestion, not a measured savings claim.
Reduce the scene before reducing the bill
Keep the central subject, visible action, a camera instruction and a clear endpoint. Remove a second location or a surprise cut unless that change is the thing you need to test. If a prop reveal is the key moment, ask the camera to show the prop rather than asking for atmosphere throughout the brief.
Write a draft prompt such as: “A baker stands beside a closed cake box on a plain counter. Locked medium shot. She opens the lid, smiles at the cake, and keeps the lid raised. Soft room tone. End with the cake visible.” This is a proposed experiment, not a example we generated for this guide.
After watching it, record whether the lid opened, the cake remained visible, and the endpoint was usable. If the lid moved incorrectly, simplify that event or prepare a first frame. If the picture works but the narration is unnecessary, remove the spoken line from the prompt; SeaDance still generates sound with the picture.
Real draft-to-final budgets
| Stage | Setting | Per generated take |
|---|---|---|
| Prompt draft: Seedance 2.0 Mini | 5 seconds / 480p | 4 credits / $0.80 |
| Longer draft: Seedance 2.0 Mini | 10 seconds / 480p | 7 credits / $1.40 |
| Final candidate: Seedance 2.5 | 10 seconds / 480p | 21 credits / $4.21 |
| Final candidate: Kling 3.0 | 10 seconds / 720p | 26 credits / $5.22 |
| Final candidate: MiniMax H3 | 10 seconds / 768P | 17 credits / $3.41 |
All dollar equivalents allocate prepaid credits at the Basic monthly rate: $29.90 for 149 credits, or approximately $0.2007 per credit. They are not separate checkout prices. See pricing for plans and packs. New accounts start with 0 credits. Each new attempt is charged again, including a completed take you dislike; a failed generation returns its generation credits. That is different from a refund of a subscription payment. See the refund policy.
| Illustrative completed attempts | Total credits | Basic monthly credit equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Two Mini drafts + one Seedance 2.5 final | 29 | $5.82 |
| Two Mini drafts + one Kling 3.0 final | 34 | $6.82 |
| Two Mini drafts + one MiniMax H3 final | 25 | $5.02 |
| Two Mini drafts + two Seedance 2.5 final attempts | 50 | $10.03 |
Understand what “upgrade” means here
SeaDance offers Seedance video at 480p; choosing Seedance 2.5 does not unlock a higher Seedance resolution. Kling 3.0 offers 720p, while MiniMax H3 and H3 Max offer 768P. Existing models provide 5, 10 and 15 seconds, and video output is 16:9. Choose the final model and duration for the deliverable rather than assuming every model has a high-resolution switch.
Kling 4.0 is another available choice in the model directory; check the live quote in the generator. Keep its quote separate from the example budgets here, and read the actual options before making a final attempt. A manufacturer feature list is not a SeaDance price list.
When moving from a short draft to a longer final, add an intentional beat rather than leaving extra time unspecified. For the cake scene, the baker can pause after the reveal and settle her hands. A longer request with the same crowded action may simply give you a different performance rather than solving the original blocking problem.
Account for stills without hiding their cost
If a consistent opening frame matters, prepare the still before the final video. On SeaDance, a first frame is an image input, not a way to preserve the entire motion of an earlier take. Use existing approved images when suitable, or budget a separately generated still. The following text-to-image quotes use the fixed settings named in each row.
| Optional preparation image | Setting | Per image |
|---|---|---|
| GPT Image 2 | Fixed 1K / low | 1 credit / $0.20 |
| Nano Banana 2.1 | 1K | 1 credit / $0.20 |
| Nano Banana Pro | 1K | 2 credits / $0.40 |
The video totals above exclude these optional stills. Add every generated image you actually request, including rejected designs. Reference mode with many images can also affect H3-family quotes. Keep the selected mode and reference count in your budget; the text-only examples are not universal prices for every image-bearing request.
Set a stop rule before retrying
Approve the draft only after the central action and endpoint work. If repeated attempts fail in the same way, pause and change the setup: reduce motion, remove contradictory directions, or replace a confusing reference. Clicking again without learning anything is still a new purchase of generation work.
Keep rejected completed takes in the cost log. “Not suitable for my project” is a creative outcome, not the same as a failed job. Generation credits return when a job fails; a completed take that misses your preference remains charged. Review the terms for the distinction between service behavior and expectations.
For a client brief, present the chosen prompt, references and budget ceiling before the final rounds. Describe the ceiling in attempts and settings, not an assumed guaranteed finished scene. Once you have a usable result, ask whether another attempt addresses a real defect or merely a different possible interpretation.
Frequently asked questions
Does a draft become a final without another charge?
No. Generating the final is a new request. The table adds the draft attempts and final attempts together rather than subtracting the drafts from the final quote.
Will Mini predict another model’s performance?
No. It can help clarify wording and staging, but another model can handle faces, timing or sound differently. Validate the final model with the actual scene.
Are completed retries refunded?
No. A completed result is charged even if you choose not to use it. Failed generations return generation credits; this does not automatically refund a plan purchase.
Can I draft without purchasing credits?
New accounts start with 0 credits. You need a purchased balance before generating, so make the first paid test small and specific.
